Vodacom Lesotho launches Starlink-based managed satellite broadband for enterprises
Vodacom Lesotho has launched an Enterprise Satellite Connectivity service built on Starlink's low Earth orbit constellation, unveiled at an event in Maseru in August 2026. The managed service comes in three forms: a main link, a standby link for customers with existing connections, and a hybrid option, branded "Unbreakable Internet", that pairs satellite with ground networks.
Vodacom says it adds local installation and support to the satellite service. Target uses include branch connectivity, cloud services, digital payments, remote monitoring, e-government, health, education and emergency coordination, across sectors such as finance, agriculture, construction and tourism.
Lesotho's ICT minister, Nthati Moorosi, noted that mountainous terrain makes fibre, microwave links and towers costly to deploy in places. Vodacom Group's non-terrestrial networks head, Navindran Naidoo, said LEO capability brings lower latency and higher throughput. The launch panel included Letshego and FNB Lesotho.
Why it matters: LEO satellite resale by a major regional operator widens connectivity options in mountainous Lesotho, where terrestrial rollout is costly. It supports field data collection, remote monitoring and cloud-based GIS workflows in areas that fibre and towers do not reach.
