Tunisia Pioneers GIS Mapping for Public Health in North Africa
In June 2024, Tunisia announced plans to pilot GIS mapping for public health, focusing on laboratory functions across North African countries. Led by Africa CDC, this initiative aims to create detailed spatial visualizations of laboratory capacities to identify gaps, optimize networks, and improve specimen referral systems. The project, highlighted during a regional training session, leverages geospatial data to enhance health service delivery, offering a model for other African nations. By mapping critical health infrastructure, Tunisia’s effort supports better resource allocation and emergency response planning, addressing public health challenges in a region with limited geospatial health applications.
