Transport for NSW opens surveying traineeships for January 2027 intake

Transport for NSW is recruiting three surveying trainees for a January 2027 start, with one place each in Parramatta, Orange and Wagga Wagga. The two-year, fixed-term, full-time traineeship combines paid on-the-job experience with study towards a Certificate IV in Surveying and Spatial Information Services.

No prior experience is needed. Applicants must have finished Year 12 or hold an equivalent such as the Higher School Certificate, and be available to start full-time work in January 2027. Weekly pay, plus superannuation, depends on when the applicant left school: $522.30 for a current leaver, rising through $609.10 and $706.70 to $808.40 for those three or more years out.

Interviews are expected in person during November 2026, followed by pre-employment checks for suitable candidates. Applications closed at 11:59 pm on Sunday, 25 October 2026.

Why it matters: Paid entry-level pathways into surveying help address skills shortages and show a model for bringing school leavers into land and spatial work. African surveying bodies and agencies could look to similar structured traineeship schemes.
