Satellogic and HEO sign three-year non-Earth imaging deal through 2029
Satellogic and HEO announced a three-year agreement on 29 October 2026, at Economist Enterprise's Space Economy Summit. It gives HEO access to Satellogic's high-resolution constellation for non-Earth imaging (NEI), in which Earth observation satellites image objects in orbit to support space domain awareness. The deal runs through 2029 and carries a seven-figure minimum annual commitment.
The agreement covers NewSat Mark IV, Mark V and Mark VI satellites, including spacecraft with inter-satellite links. The collaboration began in September 2020 with a co-funded engineering effort to adapt the satellites, and the first capture was the International Space Station. Successful captures rose from about 30 in 2021 to more than 1,600 in the latest year. Satellogic is HEO's longest-standing Earth observation partner and offers it more satellites than any other provider. A recent image of AST's BlueWalker 3 was also released.
Why it matters: The deal shows Earth observation constellations being repurposed for in-orbit inspection and space domain awareness, a growing secondary market for imaging operators. Practitioners should note that the same satellites and tasking systems can serve both ground and orbital imaging.
