GMV to build end-to-end simulator for ESA's ERS-EO governmental Earth observation work
The European Space Agency has contracted GMV to develop the first end-to-end performance simulator for the European Resilience from Space for Earth Observation (ERS-EO) programme. The work will be shared between GMV's teams in Spain and Poland. ERS-EO is a joint ESA and European Commission initiative to prepare Earth Observation Governmental Services that combine institutional and commercial space assets.
The simulator gives ESA a virtual environment to compare alternative architectures, operational concepts and planning strategies. It reproduces the full service chain, from observation requests to product delivery, so planners can find bottlenecks and see how design choices affect performance.
Software will be delivered in increasingly capable versions during the project, which ESA will use in architecture and definition work. Polish coverage of the award puts its value at about €1 million and names the project PERSEO.
Why it matters: Simulation tools like this shape how Europe's future governmental Earth observation service will task and combine satellite data. Practitioners elsewhere, including in Africa, can watch how federated public-commercial EO systems are designed and tested before deployment.
