Greece launches world's first national wildfire satellite system

Greece, in partnership with German company OroraTech and support from the European Space Agency (ESA), has launched the Hellenic Fire System—the world's first national satellite constellation dedicated to wildfire detection and monitoring. The system consists of four satellites equipped with advanced thermal infrared cameras, providing continuous, near real-time coverage across the entire country. It can detect hotspots as small as 4x4 meters with latency measured in minutes, significantly enhancing Greece's ability to respond to wildfires, which have become increasingly severe due to climate change.
