Geospatial Intelligence Drives Africa’s Sustainable Development
In 2023, the African Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (AGIA) highlighted the growing role of geospatial intelligence in Africa’s sustainable development. Using satellite remote sensing, drones, and data analytics, AGIA delivers solutions for vulnerable communities, supporting applications in environmental monitoring, urban planning, and resource management. The initiative emphasizes “tradecraft,” combining advanced technology and analytical skills to address challenges like climate change and food security. While not specific to East Africa, AGIA’s work influences regional efforts in Kenya, Ethiopia, and beyond, promoting data-driven decision-making for governments and NGOs. This marks a shift toward integrating geospatial intelligence beyond traditional GIS applications.
