Locate26, Earth observation forum and GEO report headline Australian geospatial round-up

Spatial Source's weekly round-up covers upcoming events and reports in the Australasian geospatial sector. The 10th Digital Earth Summit / Locate26 Conference runs 24–26 November in Melbourne, with standard registration closing on 26 October and a free exhibition showcase option available. Geospatial Sciences Victoria will host an informal networking evening on 25 November at South Wharf.

Earth Observation Australia's Advancing Earth Observation Forum takes place 9–12 November 2026 in Hobart. The organisation has called for management committee nominations and for input to its 2026 Community Survey, which updates a 2016 survey and gathers feedback on the Australian Earth Observation Community Plan as its ten-year span ends.

The Group on Earth Observations has published its 2026 GEO Symposium Report, drawn from a two-day meeting of 400 specialists in Geneva in May. Land Information New Zealand has also released its annual report. The round-up closes with GIS and spatial analyst vacancies in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.

Why it matters: The GEO Symposium report is the item of widest relevance, summarising international Earth observation discussions that inform practice well beyond Australia. The EOA community plan review also shows how national EO strategies are being renewed after a decade.
