CORDIS pack showcases eight EU-funded Earth observation projects from sensor to service
CORDIS, the European Union's research results service, has published a Results Pack on eight Horizon Europe projects aimed at strengthening Europe's commercial Earth observation (EO) sector. The projects are managed by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA).
The work covers end-to-end, interoperable EO systems demonstrated in real-world use cases, along with new observation payloads and greater system autonomy. It also covers on-board image processing, edge computing, AI and data fusion, low-cost technologies that shorten development cycles, and secure, scalable multi-mission ground segments.
Related project summaries published on 23 October 2026 deal with data delivery bottlenecks, orbital processing, marine litter detection, climate emissions monitoring, federated space data services, a centralised EO data platform and infrastructure monitoring. The portfolio feeds into the longer-term European Partnership for Globally Competitive Space Systems.
Why it matters: The projects show where European EO technology is heading: more processing in orbit, federated data access and flexible ground segments. These approaches could shape tools and data services that African users of European satellite data rely on.
