Earth Observation Australia expands awards to five categories for 2026
Earth Observation Australia (EOA) has widened its 2026 awards programme from three categories to five. They cover significant contribution to the Australian EO community, early-career contribution, a postgraduate student award, innovation by a group or company, and innovation through cross-organisational collaboration.
Nominations, which were open to industry, government, universities, NGOs and community enterprises, closed after a deadline extension to 18 October. Nominators submitted a PDF with the required information by email.
Winners are due to be announced at the Advancing Earth Observation Forum in Hobart, which runs from 9 to 12 November 2026. EOA's awards page gives 10 November for the announcement and lists nominees, including ICEYE Australia, Terrabit, Auspatious, Landgate and FrontierSI's ENVestigator project. Winners will be invited to take part in later EOA activities.
Why it matters: The awards show where the Australian EO sector sees progress: flood intelligence, open cloud-native platforms and regulatory monitoring. Several nominees, such as Digital Earth Africa contributors, also work on open EO approaches that African practitioners use.
