A digital land survey has started in Patuakhali Mouza No. 26 (SA Mouza No. 38) in Patuakhali Sadar Upazila, Bangladesh. Deputy Commissioner Chowdhury Ashraful Karim inaugurated it on 27 October 2026 at an event organised by the Patuakhali Zonal Settlement Office of the Department of Land Records and Surveys, including a demonstration of the digital survey equipment.

The aim is to reduce boundary disputes, record errors, area discrepancies and omitted ownership details. The Upazila Settlement Office issued stage-by-stage guidance for landowners: marking plot boundaries, giving accurate plot and identity details, checking draft records and maps, filing objections, and appealing within 30 days. Owners should then collect final records and maps, and may go to the Land Survey Tribunal where one exists. Remeasurement is possible on payment of a prescribed fee.

Why it matters: The rollout shows how a cadastral digital survey pairs field measurement with public verification and appeal stages. Land administrators elsewhere, including in Africa, can compare how such participatory steps support record accuracy.
