Angola's National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN), which sits under the telecommunications ministry MINTTICS, signed a Letter of Intent with Portuguese company GEO SAT, Lda. on 13 October 2026. It lays the groundwork for cooperation on Earth observation and geospatial applications under the ANGEO-1 programme.

The partners plan geospatial solutions for sectors ranging from state assets, land use and urban growth to agriculture, mining, coasts, water and emergency response. Pilot projects are also planned, including socially oriented ones under a "Sat for Good" concept.

The letter covers training for Angolan technicians, students and startups, controlled access to imagery and tools, support with data processing, and locally tailored applications. Training has begun: GGPEN's space education ambassador, Miguel Dunge, is on GEOSAT's internship programme in Portugal. The deal falls within the planned Angola Space Hub.

Why it matters: The deal ties Angola's ANGEO-1 satellite investment to practical downstream services and local skills. For African geospatial professionals, it points to emerging demand for applications, data processing and training in land, resource and coastal management.
