African Space Agency opens recruitment for Director General and four senior posts

Source: Space in Africa

The African Space Agency (AfSA) has advertised five senior vacancies at its Cairo headquarters, listed on the African Union careers portal on 27 October 2026. They comprise the Director General (grade D2), a corporate services director (D1), a legal affairs head (P5) and two P3 officers for finance and human resources.

The top three posts accept applications until 10 December 2026; the two P3 posts close on 25 November 2026. The Director General would answer to the president of the AfSA Council, act as its secretary, and run strategy, budgets, continental programmes, partnerships and common African positions on space. The post has seven direct and 155 indirect reports, needs a Master's degree and 15 years' experience, and pays an indicative basic salary of USD 100,017 on a three-year renewable contract.

AfSA was inaugurated in Cairo's Space City on 20 April 2025. Nationals of AU member states may apply.

Why it matters: Appointing a first Director General and core corporate and legal staff is a step in turning AfSA from an inaugurated body into a functioning institution. That affects how continental space, Earth observation and data-sharing agreements will be negotiated and run.
