Space in Africa, a Lagos-based consulting and media firm, released its African NewSpace Investment Report 2026 on 2 November. It records USD 12.63 million raised across four disclosed deals in 2026, up 307% from USD 3.10 million in 2025. All of the capital went to Kenya-based companies, and foreign investors led every deal.

Upstream firms took USD 8.0 million (63.3%), chiefly Satlyt's seed round, which aims to turn satellites into orbital AI data centres. Cumulative disclosed and estimated investment since 2014 stands at USD 280.12 million, with foreign investors supplying 66% and the ten largest rounds about 80%.

The firm's database covers 385 companies in 38 countries, 21% more than in 2023. The report introduces the African Commercial Readiness Level framework (ACRL0 to ACRL5), under which 64.4% of companies sit at ACRL3, and a four-tier Space Dependency system.

Why it matters: The figures show a thin, concentrated and foreign-led funding base for African space firms. The two classification frameworks offer investors and policymakers a common way to judge company maturity and how closely each business depends on space.
