The new Kenya Earth Observation Data Sharing Framework 2026
The Kenya Space Agency, in collaboration with the British High Commission, the Research Institute for Innovation and Sustainability, and VIFFA Consult, launched the framework to establish a unified platform for sharing satellite data across government, academia, and the private sector. As part of it, the National Earth Observation Data Council was formally established on 23 March 2026 following adoption of the Malindi Declaration, and it's chaired by the Kenya Space Agency, with the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, Survey of Kenya, the National Land Commission, and the Directorate of Resource Surveys and Remote Sensing as executive members. The aim is to remove institutional barriers between agencies and ensure space-derived data flows freely to support things like flood and drought mapping.
