3D laser scanning completes digital record of Japan's Odawara Castle

A 3D scanning team from Artec 3D has successfully created a complete high-resolution digital twin of Japan's historic Odawara Castle. Using a combination of three advanced scanning systems the backpack-mounted Artec Metrology system for wide-area coverage, the Ray II terrestrial scanner, and the Leo handheld scanner the team produced a single, continuous point cloud covering the entire 9 km site. The project aims to preserve the 500-year-old cultural landmark for future restoration, virtual tourism, and structural monitoring, demonstrating the growing use of commercial 3D scanning technology in cultural heritage preservation.
